As a Student Connections Leader, you get to help guide students and families in the lobby and the Get Connected Space. Your role is to make sure every student feels welcome and cared for and knows how to take their next step in following Jesus and serving in our church.
Your Role
The Win: You are a guide and a helper, pointing students toward resources and opportunities to grow in their faith. Every interaction is a chance to help a student take their next step with Jesus.
Before and after services, you’ll have the opportunity to:
- Welcome students and families as they arrive.
- Help students discover their next step—this could be joining Switch, participating in a Bible Plan, or starting to serve.
- Encourage students to use the Life.Church app to follow along with services, find tools to grow in their faith, or get connected to their campus.
- Pray with students and have meaningful, one-on-one conversations.
Serving Expectations
Serve Consistently
Serve every week or every other week during your scheduled time. Your serving window starts 15 minutes before the service and ends 15 minutes after. If you can’t make your scheduled time, let your adult Connections Leader or the Community Team know.
Be Timely
Arrive on time to check in with other Connections Leaders and your Coach. This gives you time to connect with other volunteers and be fully ready to serve.
Show Up Ready
Wear your Switch Student Leader shirt and name tag. Come ready to welcome, guide, and encourage students and families as they arrive and leave.
Best Practices
- Remember the mission: Our church exists to help people follow Jesus and love others. Your interactions as a Student Connections Leader should help students experience that mission firsthand.
- Partner with adult Connections Leaders and volunteers: You are part of a team. Connect with the adults and Host Team volunteers serving alongside you. Supporting each other throughout the service is a vital part of this role.
- Keep an eye out for new guests: New students might seem unsure, lost, or shy. Make them feel welcome, offer help, and guide them to the right place.
- Start conversations: Ask students and families how they are doing, what they enjoy, or what they’re learning in their group. Show genuine care and interest.
- Know the Life.Church app: Be ready to help students explore the app, follow the message notes, find Bible plans, or discover ways to get connected.
- Use resources wisely: Share helpful tips, tools, and next-step ideas depending on where students are in their faith journey.
