What Do Local Missions Coaches Do?
Coaches play a vital role at Life.Church by supporting Local Missions volunteers and Local Partners as we live out our calling to love our neighbors.
Loving our neighbors is an irreplaceable part of following Jesus. When we care for people, we glorify God and change lives for the better—ours included. And loving our neighbors starts right in our own backyard.
As a Local Missions Coach, you get to help people at our campus show God’s love to our neighbors. Here’s how you can help:
- Connect People to Local Missions Volunteer Opportunities
Taking the first step to volunteer with Local Missions can be one of the most intimidating parts of the process. But it’s easier for a new volunteer to get started when they’re supported by a coach like you—someone who’s passionate about caring for our community and who can guide them through the process.
Coaches partner with Community Pastors and Connections Leaders to help attenders discover the causes they’re passionate about and connect them to volunteer opportunities, including:
- Serving with a Local Partner
- Starting or joining a Neighbor Group
- Serving in the community with their LifeGroup
- Taking part in other campus initiatives, like item drives and serving events
Coaches can make these connections by:
- Staying up to date on our Local Missions causes, partners, and volunteer needs
- Following up on Local Partner serving interest submissions to ensure timely connections between prospective volunteers and partners
- Equipping Connections Leaders with updated information about Local Missions opportunities they can share while serving in the Get Connected Space
2. Provide Ongoing Care to Local Missions Volunteers
Coaches also provide ongoing care to active Local Partner volunteers and Neighbor Group Leaders. This can look like regularly checking in with these volunteers, asking how their volunteer role is going, praying together, answering their questions, providing helpful resources, sharing upcoming Local Missions opportunities, and working through challenges together. This relational support helps ensure that every volunteer remains encouraged and engaged for the long haul.
As part of this ongoing care, coaches maintain an active roster of Life.Church volunteers serving with their assigned Local Partner(s). When coaches check in with volunteers and learn who is still involved or who has stepped away from serving, they update that Local Partner’s volunteer roster in our online database, my.life.church.
What Are Some Other Ways a Local Missions Coach Can Partner With Their Community Team?
Outside of the two expectations above, this role can look different based on the needs of each community and your unique passions and strengths. Here are additional ways a Local Missions Coach can support missions at our campus:
- Relationally, such as attending meetings with Local Partners, identifying the best ways our church can support each partner, and offering prayer and encouragement to partners and volunteers
- Operationally, such as scheduling meetings with Local Partners, communicating with Local Missions volunteers about upcoming events or serving opportunities, coordinating event logistics, and providing other administrative support
