How to Use You Said Yes as a Connections Leader

by Leaders.Life Team

One of the most special conversations you’ll get to have as a Connections Leader is pastoring individuals after they say yes to following Jesus. You’ll be able to give these brand-new believers a You Said Yes booklet and share about some of the specific next steps in it that are relevant to them.

What Is You Said Yes?

This 21-day devotional gives new believers simple, actionable steps to begin growing in their faith. Additionally, they’ll find links to helpful tools like the Bible App and the Life.Church app.

The goal of this devotional is to create an opportunity to partner with new believers, walking with them as they begin their journey of following Jesus.

Here are a few helpful reminders as you have these special conversations with new believers.

  1. Spend time getting to know the person you’re talking with. They just made a huge decision, and you have the opportunity to celebrate with them and answer any initial questions they may have. You can also use this time to get to know them personally by asking questions about their family, their occupation, or what they do for fun.
  2. Ask individuals if they’ve already filled out a form to let us know about their decision. If they have filled out the form, let them know that a pastor will follow up and connect with them during the week. If they haven’t filled out the form, show them how to scan the QR code on the first page of the book so a pastor can reach out to support them. If filling out the form isn’t feasible, consider asking the individual for their name and contact info, so a pastor can reach out.

The following prompts can help you start this conversation:

  1. Pray with them. Choosing to follow Jesus is a big decision, so offer to pray over them and their decision.

Here’s a sample prayer to get you started, but remember that you can pray about any personal things you’ve learned as you’ve been getting to know them, too.

Heavenly Father, thank You that [individual’s name] has decided to follow You. We are so excited for them to know You more deeply. Please be with them this upcoming week and in the weeks that follow, as they begin to seek You more. In Jesus’ name, amen.
