A Simple Advent Resource for Your LifeGroup

by Leaders.Life Team

December can be a tricky month for LifeGroups.

People are traveling, calendars are filling up, and your group might meet less often. But you still want to help people grow in their faith, even when getting everyone in the same place takes a small Christmas miracle.

The Gift: A Simple Guide for Celebrating Advent is a short devotional booklet your group can use to explore the Christmas story and put their faith into practice throughout the season.

Some campuses may offer a printed copy of this booklet while supplies last. Connect with your Community Pastor to see if copies are available.

What Is Advent?

Advent is a four-week period leading up to Jesus’ birth at Christmas. Each week traditionally focuses on one theme that helps us understand what Jesus’ coming means for our lives today.

How Could Your LifeGroup Use It?

You know your group and what December tends to look like for them. Here are a few ways you could use the booklet.

Make It Your December Group Resource

Each week focuses on one theme: hope, peace, joy, or love. Inside, you’ll find:

It’s written for adults, but it’s also accessible to teens and designed so families can share one copy.

Read the weekly devotional and its corresponding Bible story together, then use a few reflection questions to start a conversation. You don’t need to get through every question. Choose the ones that seem most helpful for your group.

The practical suggestions can also help you move from discussion to action. Talk about how each person could respond to that week’s theme, then follow up when you meet again.

Stay Connected Between Meetings

If your group takes a break or meets less often in December, invite everyone to work through the booklet at home. You could use your group chat to share a reflection question or ask what stood out from that week’s devotional.

Put Each Week’s Theme Into Practice Together

Use the booklet’s practical suggestions to choose something your group can do together. For example, during the week focused on love, you could serve together or help someone in your community with a specific need. At your next meeting, talk about what the experience taught you about loving others.

If your group includes families, kids can participate too. They could help choose who to serve, join in the activity, or pray with the group. It helps everyone connect what they’re reading with how they treat people.
