Point: Choose concrete over quicksand.
Big Question: Where are you S.I.P.ping?

We are wrapping up our conversations on identity by talking about what to do when we’ve experienced an Identity Crisis. How do we respond when we run into a setback, or a failure of some sort? Does that failure define us? We are going to encourage and challenge our students to stop sipping on the lies of the enemy and start putting their trust in who God says they are.

Next week is SwitchOut so make sure to have a plan in place to connect with your group during that time to prepare for SwitchFest in two weeks!

Leader Win: Help your students know that their Switch Group is a safe place for them to open up about their failures and their setbacks. Let them talk through the places they have chosen quicksand in the past and help them replace that with concrete truth. Also, make sure your students know the plan for the next two weeks of Switch as we prepare for SwitchFest!

Point: On our own, we are less important than we think we are, but, with God, we are way more important than we think we are.
Big Question: What do you have to offer?

This week, we’re asking the question, “What do I have to offer?” Our students are hungry to make a difference, but so many of them don’t know what they have to offer or don’t think they have anything to offer. This message is all about helping our students understand that, on their own, they aren’t as important as they think they are, but with God, they are so much more important than they think they are.

We’re going to go all out with a 90s night, hear the story of how a convenience store started putting their focus on making the lives of others better and became crazy influential in the process, and come up with a plan for our Switch group to serve with a local mission partner before the end of the semester. (Don’t worry, a list of partners will be provided to you by your youth pastor.)

Leader Win: Tonight is all about having a ton of fun so that your students will be ready to open up and get real during Switch Groups. Lead your students to engage with the 90s elements and have a blast while doing it. The message is going to open up the door for students to wrestle with what they have to offer. Let your students explore what they have to offer and look for ways to help them see more in them than they see in themselves. Then, talk through the different local mission partners with your group and decide what partner you are going to serve with and when you’re going to serve with them.

Title: Where do you find your identity?
Key Verses: John 1:12 NIV, Ephesians 2:10 NLT
YouVersion Bible Plan: Potential

Point: You find your identity from your creator.
Big Question: Where do you find your identity?

Students today are bombarded with messages of who they are and what they can do that aren’t always true and aren’t always helpful. Because of that, we’re diving deeper into the idea of where the best version of our identity comes from. Why? Because how we define ourselves determines how we live. We will be using the stories of Facebook, David, and the Ugly Duckling to help our students understand the truth that the best version for who they are comes from their creator. On top of that, we are going to give our students a list of scriptural truths to help them know and understand what their creator says about them.

Leader Win: You win by building stronger connections within your Switch group and helping your students know that their Switch group is there to build them up. Help your students get to know each other’s names, stories, and contexts so they can make it personal with each other. Guide your students to explore where they’ve tried to find their identity in the past, how that has played out for them, and what steps they can take to find their identity from their creator.

Title: What Makes You, You?
Key Verses: John 1:45-46 NLT, Jeremiah 29:13 NIV, Proverbs 13:20 MSG
YouVersion Bible Plan: Identity

Point: It’s not about who you are, but whose you are.
Big Question: Who am I?

This week, we are asking this question: “What makes you, you?” This is such an important question because who you are determines what you do. Unfortunately, so many students today have chosen to define themselves by the things they’ve done, what’s been said about them, or even what has been done to them. We are going to help our students discover that the truth of who you are is best found in whose you are. As followers of Jesus, we are able to let go of the labels of our past, our mistakes, and our shame and choose to be who God says we are.

We are going to help our students learn how to live a God-honoring life by seeking God, dwelling in community, and learning to tell their stories.

Leader Win: It’s VIP Night at Switch! You win by helping every one of your students feel like a VIP by ensuring you know their name, a little bit about them, and have some contact information for you to follow up with them during the week. In addition to that, create a space for your students to feel like they have permission to wrestle with tonight’s big question. Let them wrestle with who they see themselves as and how that does or doesn’t align with how God sees them, and through that wrestling help them discover that how they define themselves shapes the direction of their lives.
