How You’re Changing Lives
From a Parent: “[My son] told us several weeks ago that he asked Jesus into his heart after asking us questions for almost a year. But we wanted to make sure he fully understood his decision—his need for forgiveness, his choice to follow Jesus for the rest of his life, and that it was his own [choice]. So, after multiple conversations with us, his sweet teachers at church, and our phenomenal Life.Kids pastor, we are confident [my son] understands his decision to follow Jesus. We are overjoyed about this four-year-old little world-changer’s great-big childlike faith. And I will forever be grateful God surrounded him with the precious people [he] needed to lead him straight to Jesus at such a tender age.”
How can you be consistent, and why does it matter? It’s all about trust.
- Serve every week, and lead the same small group of kids. This will help build relationships with the kids you lead. A positive, consistent relationship builds trust with the kids and will make a bigger impact on them spiritually than simply receiving information will.
- Have the same, clearly communicated expectations every week. Kids trust leadership that is clear and consistent because it gives them comfort and security to know what’s okay and what’s not.
- Be consistent in how you treat kids in your group. If you over-reward one kid or over-reprimand another, the kids in your small group might think you have favorites. You will have to repair the relationships to re-earn their trust.
